It is nowadays a 'hot item': plastic straws. Especially in this time, where there is much to do about the gigantic mountain of litter scattered around the world that has been created by this kind of products.

In addition to these disposable straws, plastic cutlery, plates, polystyrene drinks and food packaging, stir and cotton swabs, balloon sticks and bags of thin plastic have been in the news a lot in recent years.

1. Use it to close a bag of vacuum

Do you have any food left at home that is 'over'? Most people store it in a plastic Tupperware container or put it in a plastic bag. If you want these foods to stay good and tasty for longer, then you better seal the bag vacuum. And you can do that yourself with a straw: put the straw in the (almost) closed bag, suck the air out and close the bag.

2. Stick it through a strawberry

Use your straws as a sort of scraper, with which you can get the bottom of the ketchup bottle, for example. By moving the thin plastic rod over the bottom of the bottle, the ketchup will start moving and you can therefore empty the entire bottle .

5. Find cables easier

Tie different colored straws over the cables that you have in your house. That can be wires from the television, stereo tower or from the computer. They all look alike. By using the different colors, you know exactly which cable belongs to which device. Handy!

6. In the planter

Suppose you go on vacation for a week, but are afraid that your plants will not survive that long without water. What are you doing then? You can easily solve this by filling an empty wine bottle with water, putting the cork on it and inserting a straw through it. Then turn the bottle upside down in the planter, and very slowly the water will spread in the soil in the coming days.

11. A straw as 'pump'

You can also use a straw very well for a special 'trick'. Although it is pretty useless, it is nice. What do you have to do for that? Slide two straws together and place one end in a glass of water. The other half is in the sink. Then suck up the water and squeeze the straw that hangs in the sink . When you release it, it will drain all the water out of the glass by 'pumping' it up through the straw.
